Tree Plantation

 Tree plantation implies the process of transplanting tree seedlings for forestry, reclamation of land or the use of landscaping.  The process differs to a great extent from that of arboriculture.  Trees contribute to their environment since long periods by providing living beings with oxygen, improving the quality of air, climate amelioration, conserving water, preserving soil, and supporting wildlife. During the process of photosynthesis, trees take in carbon dioxide and produce oxygen that we breathe.  The activity of tree plantation is also known as reforestation. This depends on whether that area has recently been forested.  The process of reforestation is also referred to as silviculture.

Tree planting is conducted in various parts of the world, and strategies often differ widely across nations and regions and among individual reforestation companies. Tree planting is embedded in forest science, and if performed with proper techniques, it can result in the successful regeneration of a deforested area. Reforestation is the answer of a commercial logging industry to the large-scale destruction of various old-growth forests, but planted forest in rare instances replicates the biodiversity and complexity of a natural forest. Trees aid in the removal of carbon dioxide from the air as they grow, tree planting is often used as a geoengineering technique to remove Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere. Desert greening projects are also motivated for the sake of improving biodiversity and reclamation of natural water systems, but it has also improved economic and social welfare due to an increased number of jobs in farming and forestry.

Tree plantation can be segregated into various categories. These may be illustrated as :

  • Industrial Tree plantations – Industrial estates are actively managed for the sake of commercial production of forest products. Individual blocks in such cases are usually even-aged and may often consist of just one or two species. These species can be exotic or indigenous. Industrial plantations typically take place in large-scale. Wood production during a tree plantation is generally higher than that of natural forests. While forests are usually managed for wood production where the yield is commonly between 1 and 3 cubic meters per hectare every year, plantations of tropical species typically yield between 5 and 20 cubic meters per hectare annually. A eucalyptus plantation can have growth rates of 25 cubic meter per hectare yearly or even higher. World wide, forest plantations now amount to less than 5 per cent of the total forested area but account for 20 per cent of current world wood production.
  • Farm or home Tree Plantation – Farm or home plantations are typically established for the production of lumber as well as firewood for home use and sometimes for sale. Management may be less intensive as compared to that of Industrial plantations. In time this type of farm can become difficult to challenging from the naturally-regenerated forest.
  • Environmental Tree Plantations – Environmental Plantations may be established for the purpose of the watershed or soil protection. They are set for the sake of erosion control, landslide stabilisation and windbreaks. Such plantations are established to foster native species and promote forest regeneration on degraded lands as a tool for the restoration of the environment.

Plantation of trees has several benefits serving all living creatures on this earth. The trees are of utmost importance and have always been needed for the development of human conditions and their lifestyle. It is a fact that without trees we humans would not exist on this beautiful earth. So, trees are essential for the existence of life on earth. There are various reasons behind emphasizing on the  importance of trees such as Trees Produce Oxygen, they keep the soil clean , they aid in keeping a check on  noise pollution, Trees slow down the stormwater runoff, trees act as carbon sinks, trees tend to shade and cooling, trees Act as windbreaks, trees often fight soil erosion, in many cases they increase the value of a property and many more. Trees also help to save water, it conserves energy, reduces violence, adds unity among humanity, provides wood and protects the earth from earthquakes or other natural calamities. Starting from arborists, loggers, and till the researchers, the job opportunities that the forestry industry provides are endless. We don’t just rely on trees for work, but sustainable tree farming provides timber for building homes and shelter, and wood to be used for cooking and heating. Food-producing trees produce fruit, nuts, berries, and leaves for consumption by both humans and animals, and nourishes the health of both humanity and animal as well as it efficiently provides enormous nutrition. The presence of trees amidst our lives will add to the wellbeing of other forms of beings existing on this earth.
